Empower a Thousand’s board of directors is made of highly experienced professionals from different backgrounds.
Vusi is a Mechanical Engineer by profession with a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, GCC (Factories) and also holds an MBA from UCT. His extensive experience spans more than twenty five years in various manufacturing concerns. A seasoned manager and business executive that has experience in engineering design, plant maintenance, production, project management, process improvement and general management.
Sidinile has also lectured on Operations Strategy at UCT’s Graduate School of Business. For a number of years, he has been a regular presenter by invitation through various conference organisations to speak on the areas of Operations and Supply Chain Management.
Sidinile is the founder of the EaT group of companies, an initiative created with the intention to empower people at grassroots level. He has held senior positions in the local transformer industry namely as Managing Director of Desta Power Matla and later Chief Operations Officer of Powertech Transformers.
He is currently the Executive Chairman of Empower a Thousand Holdings (Pty) Ltd and Chairman of Empower a Thousand Construction (Pty) Ltd.
Nontobeko is a Medical Doctor by profession with a BSc. Dietetics Honours and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, as well as holding an Advanced Trauma life support; Advanced Paediatric life support and Higher Diploma in Emergency Medicine and currently doing a HIV Diploma. She has worked as a nutritionist for 3 years then moved to medicine and currently in 10th year of practice as medical practitioner. Dr Dyakopu has played various leadership roles both in various communities as well as professionally and is currently a Principal Medical Officer of the GF Jooste Hospital.
She has served as secretary for the FEDSACS organisation; Deputy President of MEDUNSA SRC; Project Officer MEDUNSA SRC 1998; Gender Officer SAU-SRC 2000 and is currently the Executive Member of the Junior Doctors Association.
Dr Dyakopu also plays a role in various community projects especially related to HIV/AIDS Awareness and Management and has worked with various support groups. She is a director of both Empower a Thousand Holdings (Pty) Ltd and Empower a Thousand Construction (Pty) Ltd.
Siza a registered Town and Regional Planner, is a former director at Urban Dynamics Western Cape, Inc. He is also a director of both Empower a Thousand Holdings (Pty) Ltd and Empower a Thousand Construction (Pty) Ltd. Maboza is the founding member of Maboza Development Planners CC, through which he aims to create employment as well as financing opportunities for his non-profit organisations (he is the co-founder of two non-profit organisations: “The Potter’s House”, which looks after the interests of orphans, and the “South African Young Planners Association”, which aims to advance creative debate and engagement amongst young planners).
His managerial experience spans the profit-making and non-profit sectors and has been serving on the board of the Community Development Resource Association as a finance sub-committee member for the past three years. Maboza’s enthusiasm, competence and commitment have resulted in his appointment on the Planning Advisory Board to the Provincial Minister of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning.
Siza holds the following qualifications: Master of City and Regional Planning from UCT; Honours in Social Science (Social Development) from UCT; as well as Bachelor of Theology from UWC. He is currently a candidate for a doctoral degree at UCT.
